What is Switzerland known for worldwide? Mountains, watches, chocolate, cheese, and cows. Without these gentle animals, Switzerland would not be able to produce milk chocolate or cheese.
In mountainous Switzerland, cows do not only graze on pastures in the lowlands. On many pastures in the mountainous regions, they can feed on mountain herbs and fresh grass. During the “Alpaufzüge” (Alpine processions) in spring, the herds are led to their summer pastures in the mountains. Since the animals would not survive the winters on the high-altitude pastures, they are led back down into the valley in late summer. But what about those that are injured and cannot make the arduous journey back? They fly!

Yes, we know, cows can’t fly on their own… but: To ensure that the injured animals arrive safely in the valley, pilots evacuate them from the pastures by helicopter.
